Events on Independence Day August 15, 2008 at
Rotary Vidyarambam School

The 62nd Independence Day of our country was celebrated in the school premises on  August 15, 2008.    The District Revenue Officer Mr. K.S. Kandasamy hoisted the National Flag and the children sang the flag song.

Then Mr. Kandasamy and Mr. V. Ranganathan President of Vidyarambam Trust planted first two trees to be followed by about 60 trees around the play ground of the school.

Many parents were present on the occasion.  The children played a welcome song with dance welcoming the gathering.  After that, in the cultural programme there were a few colourful dances performed by different groups of children.

One group of Class II students enacted a scene of conversation in English.  Then four students one from each class LKG, UKG, Class I and Class II were tested for reading words in English and Tamil from the flash cards.  The parents were unable to believe that their wards could read English within 11weeks from the starting of the school.

There was a Mela for parents.  Many items were displayed like snake gourd, cut piece of cloth, a packet of dhal, containers with different cereals, a pot filled with water, guava fruits to test floating property, conversion of railway time,  conversion of US dollar.  The parents were invited one by one and the children asked them relevant questions like: ‘what is the length of the snake gourd’, what is the weight of the dhal packet, what is the capacity of the pot, whether a guava will float on the water or not, what is the exchange rate of US dollar vs. Indian Rupee, what is the equivalent of a Railway time in a normal watch.  The answers of the parents were noted down and whoever had given the exact or close to the exact answer was declared as the winner and was awarded a prize.

Sweets and snacks were distributed to the children and the parents.

With vote of thanks and National Anthem, the function came to an end and the children were given holiday for the Independence Day.
