Mega Training Program 2007

Activities for a holistic development in Early Childhood Education

Vidyarambam has about 550 tutors and 100 assessors and coordinators for its Pre-Primary project.  We have planned to give them training to handle the children of 3 to 5 age group and ensure a holistic development for the children in education.

Prema DanielFACULTIES

Mrs. Prema Daniel has a Post Graduate degree in Home Science specialised in Child Development.  She started her career as a lecturer in Govt. College, established and ran a nursery school in Salem, and served S.C.S. Kothari Academy for Women, Chennai for 18 years in the capacity of a Coordinator in the Department of Early Childhood Education. She has developed course material for Pre primary Teacher Training and Early Childhood Education for Tamil Nadu Open University. She has visited Conestoga College, Toronto, Canada on an exchange programme and has rich experience in the field of Early Childhood Education.   She has co-authored the book ‘Play Activities for Child Development’ with Mrs. Mina Swaminathan, and has developed and edited many other books related to pre-school children. She is well known in the whole of South India as an expert in Early Childhood Education. She runs a Centre for Training and Resources in Early Childhood Education in Chennai.

 

Uma SankariMrs. Uma Shankari Chandrashekaran M.A (Psychology) trained in Special Education for Mentally Handicapped Children, obtained a diploma in Early Childhood Education and has done a  Course on “Educational Implications of Bilingualism & Multilingualism in Early Childhood”, at Mount  Carmel Training Center, Haifa, Israel.

Having served as Special Teacher for Mentally  Handicapped  Children for about 8 years, she has started and is running her own Pragati Pre-school in Neyveli for the past 14 years. She has participated in various organizations to develop curriculum for Early Childhood Education. To her credit, she has translated into Tamil the book “Play Activities for Child Development” written by Mrs. Mina Swaminathan & Mrs. Prema Daniel.  

She has been a Resource person for training programmes conducted by Vidyarambam Trust and Organisation of Muslim Educational Institutions in Tamil Nadu.

 

We have plans to conduct training programmes in 5 places dividing the participants into 5 groups. The content of the programme is to introduce to the teachers the activities for age appropriate and all round development of young children:

  1. Areas of Development and Rights, Needs & Characteristics of the child
  2. Activities for gross and fine motor Development
  3. Cognitive Development and activities for forming of concepts
  4. Social and Personal Development
  5. Language Development
  6. Activities for language, songs and movement
  7. Story telling
  8. Emotional Development- problems faced in the classroom
  9. Sensory Development
  10. Methods of Assessing & Evaluating Children

The first training was held on November 24th and 25th at Sirkali in Nagapattinam district. About 90 tutors and 20 supervisory staff attended the program for two days.

The second training was held on November 26th and 27th at Thanjavur in Thanjavur district. About 85 tutors and 15 supervisory staff took part in the program for two days.

The third training held on December 9th and 10th at Thisayanvilai in Tirunelveli district. About 75 tutors and 23 supervisory staff attended the program for two days.

All trainees actively participated and equipped themselves with many skills to handle pre-primary children effectively for their overall growth and development.

The other two training programmes will be taken up in the 4th week of January 2008.
