Former District Collector visits Rotary Vidyarambam School

Former Collector of Nagai District Dr. J. Radhakrishnan I.A.S. visiting Rotary Vidyarambam School
Dr. J. Radhakrishnan I.A.S. former District Collector of Tsunami - hit district Nagapattinam visited our Rotary Vidyarambam School in Nagapattinam. He was the one who rose up to the occurrence and did marvelous job of streamlining the flow of funds and relief materials from hundreds of NGOs to ensure the relief reaches the right beneficiaries. He appreciated our establishing a regular school with modern facilities for the children.
He recollected that during his period they did not get a suitable NGO to take up the task of establishing a school. He exhorted the staff of Vidyarambam to run the school as a model school in the interest of the under privileged children.
First week of the new school
The first day of the school began with more than 50% of the LKG children crying and the duration of the cry was beyond 30 minutes. With supportive volunteers available the day was managed.
The second day the percentage of crying children came down to 20 and the duration too to 15 minutes. The day went on with positive note that the children enjoyed playing with toys and games and scribbling on the low level black board with free hands.
The third day was quite improved though children would not sit in the class room continuously more than 40 minutes. They needed a short break to walk around and confirm their safety before getting into the next session of activities.
The UKG, STD 1 and STD 2 children behaved comparatively better with listening attitude and some teaching and learning took place.

Ranganathan discusses with Dr. J. Radhakrishnan I.A.S. about the prospects of the school

Dr. J. Radhakrishnan I.A.S. recollects an issue rasied by Donors to DSW Officer Mrs. Anbalagi M.Sc.
The fourth day of the school on Monday after a break of 2 days, was again a scene of hubbub many children crying but the duration of the cry was only for 10 minutes. Many of them opened their lunch box at the start of the class and started eating. They would not wait for the snack break or lunch break.
But the 5th and subsequent days were of good improvement and the children were receptive to the teaching that took place.
On Friday the 8th day, parent meeting was held and uniform dress sets were distributed to all the children. Almost all the parents were present. Parent Committee was formed with six members from parents and three from the school staff.
The ninth day of the School a Monday again was surprisingly calm and quiet. Not a single child cried or showed resistance. They were all at ease to take their seats in their respective class rooms and very serious to learn something. It was their first day to come in full uniform dress which probably gave them a proud sense that they are students and not playful kids!!!
