The first anniversary of the Rotary Central Vidyarambam Nursery & Primary School in Nagapattinam was celebrated on Tuesday the March 24, 2009.

The events started with Tamil Thai Prayer and Welcome Dance by Children.  Prof. Lion S. Sivaraman, Honorary Co-ordinator, Nagai District, gave welcome address.  Rotarians Mr. Vijay K. Raghavan, Mr. Dileep Bhandari and Mr. D. Chandrasekhar and Mrs. Chandrasekhar had come from Chennai and were present right through the function.   Mr. V. Ranganathan, President, Mr. C.K. Sridhar, Secretary and V. Sriram, Treasurer of Vidyarambam Trust  also attended the function.

The State Co-ordinator Ms. T. Karthika, State Project Co-ordinator Mr. S. Manohar and the district level Co-ordinators and Assessors and a few tutors were present in the occasion.  Ms. Julie Sophia, the Accounts & Admn Officer of the school with her team of teachers had organized and conducted the function very well.

The cultural event started with Fancy dress competition. Twenty-three LKG children took part and presented themselves in different roles with suitable costumes.  Mr. Sivaraman, Mr. S. Ponnambalam, and Mr. T. K. S. Kailasam, District Honorary Coordinators were the judges of the competition and decided the first 3 prize winners.

The event continued with colourful folk dances and dramas. The parents who had gathered to witness the functions appreciated the children’s performance and encouraged them with applause. Finally the Class 1 &  2 students did Yoga and there was a rapt attention among the audience.

Mrs. K. Anbazhagi, District Social Welfare Officer was the chief guest.  At the end of the events she addressed the audience, and gave away the prizes. The other guests also joined her in giving away different prizes to children.  All the 129 students of the school got one or the other prize and the parents were very happy.
