VIDYARAMBAM celebrated its ANNUAL MEET 2009 on November 6, 2009 at ARIYALUR in a grand manner. About 450 teachers, assessors, coordinators and guests had gathered. The events started with Prayer by KIDS of Vidyarambam centers from Trichy District followed by Cultural programs by students of Class 2 to 5 taking support classes at Vidyarambam Centers in Ariyalur district. All children were presented with gifts appreciating their performance. Mrs. T. Karthika the Project Manager of Vidyarambam presented her welcome address and invited Mr. T. K. S. Kailasam the Honorary Coordinator for Ariyalur, Perambalur and Trichy districts to preside over the Events of the MEET. Mr. Kailasam in his inaugural address expressed his thanks for having chosen Ariyalur district for this Annual Meet which shows the President of the Trust having the confidence in him and his team. He expressed his gratitude for the consistent support he is getting from the Board of Trustees for executing the projects for the benefit of the under privileged children of the area. Mr. Durai Sivanantham, retired Head Master from Thirumanur in his speech exhorted the teachers to give a strong foundation of quality education to the young children. Mr. Kaviko Gnanaselvan gave a special speech on “The enthusiasm to develop the Tamil language on one side and the apathy on the other side.” He gave excellent and interesting quotes from many classic literatures by hearing which one would love to learn the Tamil language more and more . He gave a few examples of how Tamil language is incorrectly spoken and written by many people. By hearing him, our teachers realize how careful they have to be while teaching the children the Tamil language. It was a very valuable and effective speech. A girl by name Amirthavarshini who had won the third prize in a competition recently conducted by a media MAKKAL TV on the subject “ Kural pesum Kural” was invited by Vidyarambam and was honoured for her victory. She is a VIII Standard student from Jawahar CBSE school in Neyveli. She gave a wonderful speech for 15 minutes on a particular chapter named “ Neethar Perumai” from Thirukkural. The talk inspired all our tutors who have surely made up their mind that they should train Vidyarambam children to speak like Amirthavarshini. Again with some Music and Dance programs by Vidyarambam Senior students, the morning event came to an end. All participants were presented with gifts appreciating their performance. For the first time, Vidyarambam introduced this year a scheme of awarding gifts to the best performing CHILDREN. Ariyalur district had the luck to get the first chance of the scheme. Seventeen children got the awards. The President of the Trust Mr. V. Ranganathan announced that this scheme may be extended to the State level in future. Then Mr. Kodai Idi Dr. S. Gopalakrishnan gave a special speech on “Education and Vidyarambam”. He compared the curriculum and the methodology adopted by Vidyarambam with other educational institutions and praised the effective methods of the teaching done by Vidyarambam. The highlight of his comment was that, if all the educational institutions in Tamil Nadu were to become comparable to Vidyarambam, Tamil Nadu would be in the forefront of Education. Next Mrs. Prema Daniel and Mrs. Uma Sankari Chandrasekhar the members of the Advisory Committee of Vidyarambam collected in the stage a few Tutors and Assessors from the audience and demonstrated through a couple of group games how a joint effort can bring successful results. These games clearly showed the participants of the MEET how they should work in a team spirit to bring the best of education to Vidyarambam children. This was followed with the quintessence of the MEET “the award presenting event”. Altogether about 120 volunteers comprising tutors, assessors, coordinators and staff members were presented with a CERTIFICATE and CASH AWARD for their best performance during the last academic year. The Trustees, Honorary Coordinators and Guest speakers gave away the awards. Following this, Assistant State Coordinators of Vidyarambam Mrs. V. Prabavathi and Mr. A. Muthukumarasamy spoke to express their thanks to the Board of the Trust on behalf of all the volunteers for organizing such a felicitating event which motivates them to work more and more effectively. As the final and popular event, a debate on “Do our children need to learn English at all?” was conducted. The teachers of Rotary Vidyarambam Nursery & Primary School running in Nagapattinam on one side emphasizing the need to learn English and the Rest of Vidyarambam on the other side maintaining that learning English is secondary. Dr. Kaviko R. Kalidasan who was the mediator of the debate gave a verdict in favour of Tamil having precedence over English. With a vote of thanks by G. Vimala, District Coordinator, Ariyalur, the proceedings came to an end. After dinner, all the participants who had come from 10 districts departed for their homes with a feeling of having gained more knowledge and interesting experience of interacting with the volunteers of other districts.
