Annual Meet 2011 celebrated with grandeur

The 9th Annual Meet of Vidyarambam Volunteers was celebrated on Friday the August 26. 2011 with splendor and austerity at Sri Krishna Hall in Sankarankovil, Tirunelveli District to celebrate the BEST TUTORS and BEST PERFORMERS.

From 8 districts, about 320 volunteers of Vidyarambam had gathered with great enthusiasm. BEST TUTOR award was presented to 98 tutors and about 45 BEST PERFORMERS among Assessors, coordinators and other staff were felicitated.

At the appointed time of 08.50 a.m. the event started with Prayer song Tamizh Thai Vazhthu sung by children from a KIDS class. A welcome dance in Bharatha Nattiyam was performed by Selvi Muppidathi a student from Easy Learning English Class. There were many eye-catching cultural dances, dramas, recital of songs, telling stories from the children of Vidyarambam’s Support Classes.

Mr. Samuel Devasahayam presided the function and in his address he recollected his involvement in Vidyarambam in its inception year for finding villages which would need the help to support their children for education. He said in the nine years of Vidyarambam’s history, the projects of Vidyarambam Trust have become popular in the rural areas of Tamil Nadu and there is a constant demand from the villagers for the good Education from Vidyarambam.

Ms. T. Karthika, the Project Manager narrated how Vidyarambam grew year after year with new teaching methodologies and has reached a stage of getting appreciated by the headmasters and teachers of Govt. schools.

Then, Tutors narrated their experience in Vidyarambam. Most of them explained how they are acquiring self development while serving in Vidyarambam.

Prof.P. Samarasam, Principal, Mano College, Sankarankovil in his address said that there is a dire need for an intellectual vision in the field of education which Vidyarambam has in abundance. He appreciated Vidyarambam for having transformed thousands of rural young girls into good teachers.

Mr. Gomathi Sankar, Head Master of a Middle School in his address compared the performance of the teachers in Govt Schools with the Tutors of Vidyarambam and lauded their dedication.

Mr.V.Sankarram, Head Master of a Govt. Higher Secondary School spoke how children need to be praised and appreciated for their talents by the teachers as much as a parent would do.

After Lunch, there were a few good cultural events performed by Senior students which were highly appreciated by the audience with big applause.

The event was attended by Ms. Padmini Sharathkumar, Chief of Staff, Polaris, Chennai, a popular IT Corporate in India. Ms. Padmini, while felicitating the best performers of Vidyarambam appreciated their performance profusely and congratulated them for winning awards.

Mr. Col. Vidyasagar and Ms. Rajeswari Vinod from Ullas Trust, Chennai attended the function and graced the occasion. Col. Vidyasagar in his speech narrated his life in Indian Army and his first ever experience of visiting remote villages of Tamil Nadu. He admired Vidyarambam tutors for their motherly approach towards children and make them comfortable and happy to learn whatever they teach.

Mrs. Kavitha Vidyasagar who had accompanied Col. Vidyasagar was all observing the proceedings of the event and spoke a few words appreciating Vidyarambam.

Mr. Charles Alwin, Manager CSR, Dalmia Cement, Ariyalur in his address stated that they do not get quality candidates for the posts offered by their company. Most of the graduates do not know how to use the English language Properly and they make many mistakes in their applications. He appreciated the initiative of Vidyarambam to teach English Grammar for the students of class VI, VII and VIII in Govt. schools.

There was a press meet attended by the Guests who gave their impression about the performance of Vidyarambam. Mr. Vidyasagar told the Press people that some silent social revolution is going on in Education in the rural villages of TamilNadu by the intervention of Vidyarambam.

The Certificates and Cash Awards were presented to the chosen BEST TUTORS and Gifts were distributed to the BEST PERFORMERS among the staff members by the Honorary Coordinators Mr. Samuel Devasahayam, Mr. Ponnambalam , Mr. T.K.S. Kailasam and all special guests.

Mr. Jayaram, a Yoga teacher spoke about the need of yoga practice for every human being and with the help of his assistants demonstrated a few Asanas of Yoga .

A discourse on FEMINISM by Dr. Kovai Saratha was the last item of the event.

The function ended with a vote of thanks by Mr. Muthukumarasamy, State Coordinator.
