The “KnowIt - Basic Digital Literacy Programme” developed by INDISS INFO TECH in Tamil Nadu is being adopted by Vidyarambam. The program is being taken to the first time learners in the rural communities of Tamil Nadu. Vidyarambam is stepping into another venture of widening the skill level of rural population in Tamil Nadu in this electronic era. It is an easy computer training program for rural children, youngsters and elders. If one knows to read and understand Tamil language, she / he can learn computer of her / his own. There is no need for a tutor to guide. It is a self learning lesson. Any enterprising rural woman, while being a housewife with minimum qualification to read Tamil language, can learn to use a computer for communicating and maintaining household accounts. The rural farmer may try to maintain an account to study the profit / loss status of his farm. A small shopkeeper in the villages can go for computerized accounting. A school student will learn to use to the extent of browsing hundreds of sites on the internet and learn tons of information along with fun and games. The unique teaching methodology – SEE, PRACTISE, TEST - allows learners to complete the programme without the assistance of a real teacher. Initially the project will be started in Sirkali, Nagapattinam district and Sankarankovil, Tirunelveli district. Once we gain experience, we shall spread the scheme to all the 12 districts where Vidyarambam is rooted well.
