Vidyarambam Trust Vidyarambam Trust

Success Story

G. Vimala, District Coordinator, Perambalur

When Vidyarambam came to our village 4 years back, not much was known about it as it to as a new entrant to the field of literacy.

As the tutor of centre No. 20,  I had to fight against all odds to attract both the children and their parents.

It was started in my relative’s house with limited space and soon we occupied the panchayath building as the president could see the effect of learning. An adverse action by the local anganwadi worker threatened our existence but soon the villagers understood that the quality of education in Vidyarambam was far better, and we continued to have their patronage which lasts till now.

Continuous training by experts made things easy for us and, it had a telling effect on the children’s knowledge.

In the first year, my 3 children could not get through the evaluation test at the end. This was only due to the fact that one child had a congenial heart problem, the other was a disabled child, while the third was a bit playful.

Children who went to regular school from my center were spotted as very efficient by the teachers there and thanked me profusely for having reduced their work burden by 75%, which they also confirmed in their letter to H.O,Vidyarambam.

I was promoted as Assessor after 1 year, as Asst Coordinator after 2 years and as Dist Coordinator after 4 years which shows Vidyarambam’s policy of encouraging the volunteers whenever they deserve.
